Wow, that is some cold out there today - can remember when I would not have given a second thought to temps like this but as you get older the internal heater does not function like it once did - could even put up with a few hot flashes today!!

Our next door neighbours who are I might add somewhat antisocial feel that since they do not own a car there is no need to shovel their driveway or even their walk and find it more convenient to use ours for deliveries, taxis every other day, visitors, etc. We cleaned out their driveway once but without as much as a thank you decided they are much younger and do not seem to have much to do with their time. The father of the son and his whatever + child moved out last month and from what we hear from the owners the rent has not been paid and they are in the process of being evicted so I don't suppose they really care!!

Last week the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that the federal government has exclusive jurisdiction to decide who has the right to get married in this country. I don't really think that legitimizing same-sex marriages is going to threaten the sanctity of the "traditional marriage". I believe that an admirable job has already been done on that by heterosexual couples. Depending on where you find your stats it appears that approximately 45% of marriages in Canada end in divorce, 70% of men had affairs and 50-60% of women cheat in their marriages. The aftermath of that is that only 35% of marriages survive. Add to that, 51% of married women have been abused by married partners - so, my question is really not whether same-sex couples should marry but why they would want to??

I know David has been praying for snow to try out his new skis but enough already - don't over do it!!!

Article in the paper this morning regarding a stain glass portrait of a saint at a hospital in Calgary that has been covered with doors as it was offensive to those of different faiths - gawd, what next? I have lived many years with people of different faiths especially those of the Jewish persuasion and there was never a problem so who are those that are offended - nobody seems to know??? Calgary's bishop stated "democratic societies must be tolerant of all religious creeds while allowing no single faith to have so much power that it could oppress the others. Reducing everything to its lowest common denominator so as not to offend anyone ends up offending just about everyone".

Thanks to son Kevin, this site has improved somewhat and one may search my former dissertations, not that one may want to but the option is there! While travelling about on our infamous public transport (which can be an adventure in itself) I have noted just how uncaring people have become and wonder at the lack of common courtesy. While standing in a large bus shelter in which all the seats were taken I noted an elderly, frail lady with a cane enter the shelter and nobody offered her a place to sit. This is not an isolated occurence and I cannot help but feel disgust at the lack of concern by our fellow man. I am among those who will offer a seat to the elderly, disabled, pregnant women or those with kids in tow and would feel less of person not to do so. I offered a seat to an elderly gentleman one day who thanked me up and down with tears in his eyes as he remembered a time when he felt obligated to do likewise. So come on folks, show some respect for others and teach the younger generation and indeed all those who have not yet learned how to become caring and considerate citizens - hold that door open it only takes a second and please thank those who are kind enough to be courteous to you. Remember - treat others the way you would like to be treated.
