EASTER GREETINGS TO ALL

Wednesday, March 23, 2005
With all the news regarding the removal of Terri Schiavo's feeding tube I feel the need to add my two cents. I think it is a absolute tragedy to allow anyone to die from starvation - we would not treat a dog that way. I personally would never want to live in a persistent vegetative state but surely there is a more humane way to handle the situation but then it would be euthenasia and heaven forbid someone could be allowed to die with some dignity without a lot of suffering. I wonder if the powers that be who make these decisions have children or if they have ever seen someone starve to death??? It is a very complex situation with many twists and turns but is one that has caught the attention of many who are now looking at the possibilities of their own demise in a similar situation.

Managed somehow to hurt my ankle and have been hobbling around the last couple of days - I just cannot sit around and give it a chance to heal. The need to go shopping yesterday just overtook me and today I am paying the price - perhaps taking it easy today would be a good idea!!

Still paintinnnnng - slow process - our minds are willing but our bodies are slow - last room today and then a break before "attacking" the kitchen!!

There are a lot of negative statements made about those living on social assistance and although I believe there are those who indeed benefit from this help for short periods of time it irks me to no end when people misuse this assistance that is
coming from our hard earned tax dollars especially those who make social assistance a way of life!! I can state a number of instances but the one that appears in my face is the young couple who live next door. They are both young (20ish) and healthy but live on social assistance and use taxis every other day to travel around even though there is great bus service in the area They have their liquour, beer, pizza, etc delivered almost every weekend and food (along with other non-food items) is delivered to their door from the food bank. At the beginning of winter we blew out their driveway while they stood in the window with a beer in their hands both of them too lazy to even clear off the steps - that was that last time their driveway was cleared until the owners enlisted a vehicle to clean it out. Until then they just used our driveway for their taxi service, deliveries, etc. They were in the process of being evicted last Dec but it looks like they will be there for sometime - how lucky can we get? On a similar topic why is it that 1200 seniors citizens who have paid taxes all their lives cannot obtain subsidized housing?
