For anyone who may have had trouble following my description of the location of my father's home in Clarke's Beach, Nfld I am attaching another photo indicating the exact location.

In my research of Clarke's Beach, Nfld. I was able to find the exact house where my father was born and raised. I found an old photo of the area and along with an old map dated 1886 and the assistance of a family connection in the area who is a real estate agent I was able to pinpoint the old home. In the picture the house is the second home closest to the street (darker color) on the left hand side just down from the church and school. I believe the photo was taken after my father and his family left the area and the place was being taken care of by a cousin who later claimed squatters rights and sold it (although he never lived in it he grew a garden there!!) - there is now a pharmacy located on the site. When my father told me he grew up at a beach my imagination led me to believe something more "exotic". None of these homes exist anymore but the church and school are still there. For those who may, or may not be, interested.

Thought this poem was FITTING (I am not the author of this one)

GRAMDMA'S SHOES

When I was very little, all Grandmas that I knew
Were wearing the same kind of ugly Grandma shoes.
You know the kind I mean, clunky heeled, black, lace-up kind,
They just looked so very awful that it weighed upon my mind.
For I knew when I grew old, I'd have to wear those shoes.
I'd think of that, from time to time, it seemed like such bad news.
I never was a rebel, I wore saddle shoes to school
And next came ballerinas, then sandals, pretty cool.
And then came spikes with pointed toes, then platforms, very tall.
As each new fashion came along, I wore them one and all.
But always, in the distance, looming in my future there,
Was that awful pair of ugly shoes, the kind that Grandmas wear.
I eventually got married, and then became a mom,
Our kids grew up and left, and then their children came along.
I knew I was a grandma and the time was drawing near
When those chunky, black, old lace-up shoes were what I'd have to wear.
How would I do my gardening, or take my morning hike?
I couldn't even think about how I would ride my bike!
But fashions kept evolving and one day I realized
That the shape of things to come was changing, right before my eyes.
And now, when I go shopping, what I see fills me with glee
For, in my jeans and Reeboks, I'm as comfy as I can be.
And I look at all these little girls, and there, upon their feet
Are chunky, black, old Grandma shoes, and they really think that's neat.

One thing about being retired is that you can keep an eye on how your tax dollars are being spent. Case in point, the city took down a tree next door sometime ago and the process of replacement was rather interesting: first a truck came with a crew to dump off a replacement tree; after several days a crew appeared looked over the situation and sprayed a yellow marker on the lawn; the next day another crew appeared spent some time surveying the job and stretching themselves before a hole was dug by one member while several others supervised, expected they would plant the tree, but no, they placed it in the hole and off they went; would you believe another crew came along to survey the situation once again and it took several minutes before a decision was made to actually plant this little tree. The stump from the old tree is still there and I can imagine it will take a similar process to have it removed!!!

It begs the question: how many city employees does it take to plant a small tree???

This ain't no "itsy, bitsy" spider - those with a fobia of spiders might just have nightmares and imagine those 21 eggs hatching some dark and stormy night!!! Some people really think this is a thing of beauty - unique maybe but beautiful I think NOT???

Went to see my doctor today to see if my cast could finally be taken off and I was surprised that even though the Dr at the walk-in clinic stated it should be X-rayed again after two weeks he just said take it off and walk - gave me the impression that he wondered why I came to see him!!! Anyway it is great to be rid of it but my foot feels rather weak and kind of floppy. I imagine a day or so and I will be back in business as will the local malls.

Thought for Today

There is no key to happiness - the door is always open.

HAPPY 'FIRST' BIRTHDAY GREETINGS TO GRANDDAUGHTER MADDIE

Not a lot to rant about except for the lack of warm weather and sunshine but that should come to pass before long!! Another week for my air cast, how annoying, but over and above that I have now injured my ribs so I think I should wrap myself in a bubble and stay there until next year as this one does not seem to be doing me any favours. Also had to fork out money for new frames for my specs as they just came apart (somewhat like my body), they had the same frames in stock so the old lens were placed in them- it irks me that I could not get some new "glamourous" frames!!

Words of Wisdom that seem appropriate to me at this time:

It's all right to sit on your pity pot every now and
again. Just be sure to flush when you are done.
