A few comments regarding David's blog and his opinion on the Canadian military. Canadian servicemen and servicewomen do "volunteer" for a career in the military forces and to "serve" their country being called upon to spend months and sometimes years away from their loved ones. They are trained and prepared for dangerous assignments and are well aware of the consequences not unlike the police force, the fire department, etc which are made up of people who volunteer to serve mankind and thank God for all of them. We should be proud of those who lay their lives on the line day after day. Military not only serve their country in times of war but are ever present in emergency situations and disasters under difficult circumstances not to mention financial restraints and equipment shortages. As to the situation in this part of the world we all know that terrorists are living among us - the Towers in the US was a wakeup call and it is not a matter of "if" but a matter of "when" terrorists will strike. Although I am not sure our troops should be in Afghanistan I fully support their efforts and pray that they will return safely to their families. Sure they are being paid to serve their country but it is little compensation for the horrors they are facing each and every day. Can you imagine what it would feel like to wake up in the morning and never know if you will ever see your loved ones again?

Remembrance Day - I hope that the so-called "pomp and ceremony" will go on forever and that those who fought and died for our freedom will always be "remembered" - we cannot be allowed to ever forget. Those of us who remember the war and know there was hardly a family in the country that did not suffer some loss are well aware of the tragedy of war. What ever happened to respect and appreciation? How about the idiot who urinated on the War Memorial and got nothing but a slap on the hand - in my time he would have had his ass kicked all the way back to his country of Quebec where incidentally many took to the hills to avoid the great wars (former Prime Minister Trudeau being one) and should we pay tribute to these people - I think NOT. The National War Memorial commemorates all wars fought by this country and honors ALL those who never got to live their lives, to see their families grow or to enjoy the freedom that is so often taken for granted. Perhaps military training and a chance to serve our country on the front lines would make "men" of the young, spoiled, undisciplined and disrespectful youth in our country but I seriously doubt it!!

I was watching a McDonald's commercial recently involving comments from Cape Breton on their Turkey BLT and one customer/actor who definitely had the Cape Breton accent down flat remarked "This is a giant cornacopia of awesome" - now anyone who is a Caper like myself would know that capers do not express themselves quite like that and a more likely reply would have been "Dat's right some goood, bye".

We bought a new HD flat screen TV for the dining room and himself decided we should move up with the rest of the world and rent a HD PVR - I being techy illiterate and have difficulty with the remote controls at the best of times now have one with even more buttons and way too much information for my senior pea brain to compute. Oh my heart!!! I must say that recording, once I learned how, is quite easy compared to the VCR and the reception with both the new TV and PVR is really great. For someone who grew up watching a radio I have come a long way with all the new fandangled technology and "dat's right some goood, bye".

Christmas Shopping - decided last weekend to put off Christmas shopping until Monday when the shops are normally not busy. We first headed to the new Walmart near the train station not knowing about the street closure because of the cement falling from the rail bridge and became entangled in a massive traffic jam. Then headed to St. Laurent where it was just like the day before Christmas and we travelled around to find a parking spot a mile or so away from the store. Sometimes you just cannot win!! Glad to hear on our return home there was a reason for this madness and a work holiday had not been declared without our knowledge.

One of my requests from Santa this year is the DVDs that have recently been recorded of the "Waltons" (some of you may not remember the Waltons and there may those of you who may not wish to remember the Waltons). It was in fact one of my all time favorite programs and during the time of its reign I was a very busy person with a full time job, three energetic boys, and a house to run (all of which I accomplished without any help) but my whole world ceased to exist during the hour that the Waltons ran and I would seek out my stash of b-b-que potato chips (Donald occasionally reminds me and anyone who will listen about my hiding goodies for myself but seldom owns up to the fact he usually found my hiding places first) then "ordered" some peace and quiet while I de-stressed in front of the TV (one of the very few times I might add that I took the time to sit and watch TV). I also remember that my sons "the devious Deeveys"were relentless in their antics about the "Waltons" and at bedtime I can still hear "Goodnight Donald, Goodnight Kevin, Goodnight David, Goodnight John Boy".
