project profile: Neat coffee/bakery/market >

A division of Pepper Cellars Inc. This new Calabogie based business endeavors to provide, in their words: "a culinary experience, with an artisan approach, and a community focus". Neat will at first host a coffee shop in the village of Burnstown. This will be followed shortly by a bakery and eventually a locally focussed organic produce market. The long term plan is to provide a focal point for the enjoyment and purchase of exquisite foodstuffs, the sampling of vintage wines and luxurious dining.

As a startup venture, the client required a full service approach with brand development, collateral production and web identity design and development. The first phase of work was to develop a brandname and wordmark. “Neat” was selected to reflect the culinary focus of the company and to embody its sustainable and ecological values. Marketing and communication collateral was designed and produced; ranging from letterhead to roadside signage. The last phase of work encompassed a CMS based website to provide the bulk of the online presence for the coffee shop and bakery. In addition to the digital media work, we are providing consulting on facility planning and interior design for the flagship location in Burnstown Ontario.

The following is a selection of the collateral and design work completed to date:

Brand development and production

The wordmark reflects the culinary focus of the business. It was critical to emphasize the emotional aspect of the "eat" in the brand. Color, type and layout were all driven by traditional best practices in graphic design and brand strategy.

Using the completed wordmark, mission critical marketing collateral was produced to get the comapny off the ground.

Additional signage and wayfinding assets will be produced as the company matures and grows.

Neat signage

The rural location of the venture afforded us to opportunity to consider a roadside sign that would never comply to more urban zoning regulations. An additional opportunity was at hand when the owners uncovered an old style sign post on the property. The new sign was designed to take advantage of this asset.

The sign is a substantial marker that was designed to be flexible and adapt the changing nature of the business. The sign is comprised of several elements that can be added or removed as required.

More importantly the consistancy of the physical brand elements and the digital ones is reinforced and highly effective.

Neat website

Built on the popular "Drupal" platform, the company website provides a flexible and easily scalable solution. The site is design to be a simplelanding page at the launch of the venture, but incorporates all the features require for it to mature into a full fledged e-commerce solution and strong community destination. More importantly, the administration interface allows the owners and managers to update and contribute content as required without the overhead of a web development team.
